Gold prices soar across India ahead of Diwali, nearing ₹1.3 lakh per 10 grams amid global market volatility.

On Thursday, the gold prices in India reached new heights day by day, with 24K gold nearly touching the ₹1.3 lakh per 10 grams mark. This was mainly due to strong global cues and the festive-season demand that began with Dhanteras and Diwali.
Spot gold in the international market increased by 0.3% to $4,218.74 an ounce in Singapore, while the Bloomberg Dollar Spot Index fell for the third day in a row, thus giving a boost to the metal’s price rise. The US government shutdown that has been prolonged, along with concerns about fiscal deficits that are getting worse, have caused investors to consider gold as a safe-haven asset and, thus, have driven them toward it.
According to Goodreturns, the gold rates in India on October 16, 2025, stood as follows:
24K Gold: ₹1,29,450 per 10 grams
22K Gold: ₹1,18,660 per 10 grams
18K Gold: ₹97,090 per 10 grams
Experts attribute the metal’s over 60% surge this year to robust central bank purchases and increased physical buying across Asian markets. Saad Rahim, Chief Economist at Trafigura Group, noted that “fears of debt sustainability and the prospect of lower interest rates are pushing investors to gold as a store of value and safety.”
