Gold, Silver Prices on May 14: Rates Dip as US-China Trade Deal Boosts Risk Appetite; Silver Seen as Better Bet
Gold prices eased slightly on May 14 as investor sentiment shifted towards equities, following progress in trade negotiations between the United States and China. The two nations have agreed to lower tariffs—down to 30% and 10%, respectively—for a 90-day period while further terms are finalized. This development has reduced the appeal of gold as a safe-haven asset.
Favourable inflation trends in both India and the US have also contributed to the decline in gold prices.
Silver May Outperform Gold This Week
Commodity expert Manoj Kumar Jain of Prithvifinmart suggests silver could outperform gold in the near term. “Silver has industrial demand backing its price, whereas gold remains vulnerable to geopolitical instability, especially from the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict,” he noted.
Jain recommends avoiding gold and buying silver on dips around ₹95,800, with a stop loss of ₹95,100 and a target of ₹97,200.
Despite recent dips, gold has delivered robust returns over the long term. Over the past year alone, gold prices have surged 30%, delivering a 15% CAGR since 2001 and outpacing inflation by 2-4% since 1995.
