Spotify DJ Gets Smarter: Now takes voice requests for curated playlists

Spotify has upgraded its AI DJ feature to accept voice commands, giving Premium users a hands-free, personalized music experience. With the latest update, users can now speak directly to the DJ to generate playlists tailored to their mood, activity, or favorite genres—no typing needed.
What’s New with Spotify DJ?
Available in over 60 markets, the enhanced AI DJ responds to spoken prompts like:
“Play upbeat music for cleaning the house.”
“Sad songs for a rainy afternoon.”
“Give me electronic beats for my morning workout.”
“Surprise me with indie tracks I haven’t heard before.”
The AI curates playlists by blending your listening history with fresh recommendations. It pulls from genre, artist, and mood-based data, thanks to a mix of machine learning and input from Spotify’s global editorial team.
A More Human Experience
Adding to the immersive experience, the DJ speaks in a voice modeled after Xavier “X” Jernigan, Spotify’s Head of Cultural Partnerships. His conversational tone helps create a more natural, interactive feel. Users have responded positively to this human touch.
Although still in beta, this voice-driven DJ marks a significant leap in Spotify’s personalization strategy. However, it currently supports only music—no audiobooks or podcasts just yet.
How to Use Voice Commands with Spotify DJ
Open the Spotify app and go to the Search tab.
Look for “DJ” and tap Play.
To make a voice request, press and hold the DJ button at the bottom-right corner.
Wait for the beep, then speak your request (genre, mood, activity, etc.).
To change the vibe or make a new request, just repeat the voice prompt process.
Tap the DJ button once to skip to a new section if you don’t want to use voice.
Spotify says the feature is designed to simplify music discovery and keep the experience fresh and engaging.
