Classic Kanto adventures are making a comeback as Pokémon FireRed Version and Pokémon LeafGreen Version arrive on Nintendo Switch, celebrating 30 years of Pokémon.

Fans of the Pokémon franchise have a nostalgic treat lined up ahead of Pokémon Day 2026. Pokémon FireRed Version and Pokémon LeafGreen Version are officially set to launch on Nintendo Switch, bringing the beloved Kanto region back into the spotlight.

Originally released for the Game Boy Advance in 2004 as enhanced remakes of Pokémon Red and Pokémon Green, the two titles will be available for download via the Nintendo eShop following the Pokémon Presents broadcast on Friday, February 27, 2026, at 6:00 a.m. PST.

The Switch release preserves the classic experience that defined FireRed and LeafGreen, allowing players to relive the original Kanto storyline with refreshed visuals and familiar mechanics. The games also include access to the Sevii Islands, a post-game feature that expanded the original adventure and introduced new Pokémon encounters.

Players will be able to trade Pokémon, battle other Trainers, and interact locally, recreating the social elements that made the original versions so memorable. Whether returning after two decades or stepping into Kanto for the first time, Trainers can once again explore the region that laid the foundation for one of gaming’s most iconic franchises.

The release forms part of wider celebrations marking 30 years of Pokémon, giving longtime fans and newcomers alike a chance to experience the roots of the series on modern hardware.
