Rockstar Games has officially confirmed that GTA 6 will launch exclusively on consoles first, with no PC version at launch. The game will release on May 26, 2026, for PS5, PS5 Pro, Xbox Series X, and Xbox Series S—and that’s it for now.

There’s no mention of a PC release, and notably, no sign of a Nintendo Switch 2 version either. While Nintendo could have surprises in store, it’s looking unlikely for now.

So, when can PC players expect GTA 6?

To get a sense of Rockstar’s strategy, let’s look at how long previous games took to make the jump from consoles to PC:

GTA 4: Released on PS3 and Xbox 360 in April 2008 → PC version launched 8 months later in December 2008.

GTA 5: Released on PS3 and Xbox 360 in September 2013 → PC version arrived 19 months later in April 2015.

Red Dead Redemption 2: Released on PS4 and Xbox One in October 2018 → PC version launched over a year later, in November 2019.

Clearly, Rockstar tends to stagger its PC releases, often holding off for 8 months to nearly 2 years after console launches. If history repeats itself, GTA 6’s PC release might not happen until late 2027—or even 2028.

What we know so far about GTA 6 visuals

Rockstar also revealed that the latest trailer’s footage was captured on a standard PS5, not the upcoming PS5 Pro. Even so, the game shows off stunning visuals—detailed animations, muscle movement, sweat effects, fluid dynamics, and small touches like bubbles in beer bottles.

However, Rockstar hasn’t yet confirmed what framerates or resolutions the game will run on across PS5, Xbox Series X, or Series S.

In short, PC gamers may need to be patient, as Rockstar appears set to stick to its console-first approach—just like it did with GTA 5 and Red Dead Redemption 2.
