YouTube is preparing a significant overhaul of its live TV service in early 2025, introducing more than 10 genre-based subscription plans, including a dedicated Sports Plan featuring major broadcasters and ESPN networks. The update is aimed at giving users greater control over what they pay for and how they watch, marking one of the biggest redesigns in the platform’s history.
YouTube TV to Offer Customisable Subscription Plans
In a new blog post, YouTube confirmed that the upcoming YouTube TV Plans will allow subscribers to choose from numerous themed packages—sports, news, entertainment, family content and more. This new model shifts away from traditional all-in-one bundles and moves toward flexible, mix-and-match subscriptions.
Users can either continue with the existing YouTube TV package offering over 100 channels or opt for narrower, curated channel packs suited to their interests.
Sports Plan to Be the Highlight
The YouTube TV Sports Plan is expected to draw the most attention. It will include:
- FS1
- NBC Sports Network
- Full ESPN network lineup
Newly launched ESPN Unlimited
Subscribers will also be able to add premium sports content like NFL Sunday Ticket and RedZone. All existing YouTube TV features—including unlimited DVR storage, multiview, key plays and fantasy view—will remain available across all plans.
More Features Coming in 2025
YouTube says it has “a lot in store” for members next year and will share more updates soon. This expansion comes as competition intensifies in the streaming and live TV market.
Meanwhile, YouTube has introduced its first YouTube Recap, a personalised summary of users’ annual viewing patterns. The feature is expected to roll out to Indian users later this week. This recap is different from YouTube Music’s version and arrives just as Spotify prepares to release its annual Wrapped review for users.
