WhatsApp has finally released its long-rumored Apple Watch app to the public after months of testing, thus enabling iPhone users to read messages, send voice notes as replies, and even react to chats directly from their wrist. The application is compatible with Apple Watch Series 4 and newer models powered by watchOS 10 or later.
WhatsApp's Apple Watch version after weeks of beta tests is now offering a more independent experience which is not only phone mirroring but also simple phone mirroring. Users can view entire message threads, provide short voice replies, and even use emoticons to express their feelings—all without the necessity of their iPhone being nearby.
Call and message notifications are synced perfectly, while the watch screen displays photos, stickers, and some parts of the chat history for easier and continuous conversation.
WhatsApp has made it clear that while typing and sending text messages are completely operational, the same cannot be said for voice and video calls, which are still unsupported at this moment. This situation may be related to Apple’s restrictions on system-level operations or the company’s gradual and cautious approach to implement advanced watchOS features.
As usual, the privacy of users is secured by WhatsApp’s end-to-end encryption which is applied to all chats and notifications shown on the Apple Watch. The platform also revealed its new method of passkey-based authentication for protecting encrypted chat backups—thus giving users the option to confirm their identity by using Face ID or Touch ID.
