The recent unveiling of Xiaomi's newest 17 series in China has promised the Indian market the arrival of the same in early 2026. The three models included in the lineup are Xiaomi 17, Xiaomi 17 Pro, and Xiaomi 17 Pro Max. Before the official launch, Xiaomi India has sent Gadgets 360 the China versions of the Xiaomi 17 and 17 Pro for an initial review.

The new series features Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5, Qualcomm’s ultramodern chipset, in all their three models. The phones are offered in various dimensions, 6.3 to 6.9 inches, thereby providing the users a choice of either a compact or a large display according to their preferences.

The Xiaomi 17 is 191 grams heavy and tiny enough to be very easily used in one hand, thus fighting for a spot in the small flagship category with the likes of OnePlus 13s and Vivo X200 FE. The back panel and edges are made of matte glass which is smooth to touch and can be cleaned easily, besides the fact that the device comes in four colors—Black, Blue, Pink, and White.

The 17 Pro slightly differs in weight as it is 192 grams and also has an 8mm thickness, than the iPhone 17 Pro has. It provides a very comfortable hold due to its rounded corners. The color options for the 17 Pro are black, white, purple, and green. One of the major design features is, of course, the secondary rear display that provides extra functionality and also looks good. The IP68 rating for dust and water resistance applies to both gadgets.

Xiaomi 17 features a 6.3-inch LTPO AMOLED display that can refresh at 120Hz, has HDR10+ compatibility, and a maximum brightness of 3500 nits. The ratio of the screen to the body is 89.5 percent, which guarantees an immersive viewing experience. The 17 Pro has the same features but also includes a 2.7-inch secondary rear display with a 572x904 pixel resolution. Both devices are fitted with Dragon Crystal Glass and a sophisticated light-emitting material that increases the brightness efficiency. The 17 Pro Max incorporates independent pixel array technology that offers more detailed pictures and better power saving, together with Xiaomi Shield Glass 3.0.

The Xiaomi 17 has a threefold 50MP rear camera array, while the 17 Pro comes with a threefold 50MP system with a dual-display housing for the wide and telephoto lenses, and an ultra-wide sensor placed by the LED flash. First impressions are that the cameras are good, but the detailed testing will be conducted with the Indian retail units, hence the need for more time.

Xiaomi 17 and 17 Pro are both powered by Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 and run HyperOS 3 based on the latest Android 16. The gadgets are fitted to perform heavy multitasking, gaming, and media editing smoothly without lag.

The Xiaomi 17 comes with a 7000mAh battery, while the 17 Pro has 6300mAh. In China, both are compatible with 100W wired and 50W wireless charging. Initial testing suggests that the 17 will last over a day and the 17 Pro will last about a day, but the final battery life will be determined when Indian units arrive.

The 17 Pro's Dynamic Back Display, which is the name given to its second screen, is capable of alerting, displaying flight details, and even serving as a camera viewfinder for the rear view. Besides, users can personalize the dual displays by selecting watch faces, AI wallpapers, virtual pets, and sticky notes, thus making the use cases of dual displays in everyday life more extensive.

According to Chinese launch prices, the Xiaomi 17 Pro, along with the Xiaomi 17, the latter by CNY 4,499 (approximately Rs 56,000) and the former by CNY 4,999 (approximately Rs 62,000) and the premium 17 Pro Max by CNY 5,999 (approximately Rs 75,000), are the major unveilings in the company's new series. India’s price may be different, and the firm will disclose the exact numbers only when the local launch is near.
