Why Oracle Corporation is slashing 30,000 jobs amid big changes
India seems to be among the worst-hit markets, with reports of signs that about 12,000 employees may have been laid off out of a personnel of around 30,000.
Oracle Corporation is reportedly cutting around 30,000 jobs as part of a major restructuring effort, reflecting broader shifts toward cloud computing, automation, and cost optimization in the tech industry.
Oracle Corporation has reportedly cut thousands of jobs globally. The prime estimates advising that the total could reach up to 30,000. However, the company constantly posts strong growth in revenue.
However, the right number has not been officially confirmed. The move is broadly noticed as part of a broader strategic shift. The company is gradually focusing on artificial intelligence and growing the infrastructure of the data center.
According to ANI, ‘The layoffs of the Oracle employees have directly impacted multiple areas, like India and Mexico. India looks to be among the worst-hit markets, with reports showing that about 12,000 employees may have been laid off out of a workforce of around 30,000.’
One of the prime reasons at the back of the cut down is Oracle’s aggressive push into artificial intelligence infrastructure. The company has reportedly signed a $156 billion deal to create AI data centres in the last five years, largely for OpenAI.
The growth demands huge spending. Oracle is hoped to purchase about 3 million specialised chips to assist the Al data centres. The real spending on the infrastructure has increased stridently, started from about $6.9 billion yearly two years ago to about $50 billion in 2026.
To assist the scale of the AI investment, the company seems to be cutting costs in other areas, like the workforce.
Oracle is even possessing huge debt, expected to be over $108 billion. It has added pressure on the company to handle its finances cautiously.
The company had also filed a reform plan worth $2.1 billion in March. It is about $1 billion previously spent before the layoffs were performed.
