U.S.-based wearable tech company Whoop has rolled out two upgraded fitness bands — the Whoop 5.0 and Whoop MG — with a strong focus on advanced health metrics, including blood pressure tracking and ECG screening, as part of a broader platform evolution.
The new devices, each more compact than their predecessor by approximately 7 per cent, offer over two weeks of battery performance, the company announced on Thursday, May 8.
Chief Executive Officer Will Ahmed, in a LinkedIn statement, said the product debut is part of a larger strategy to reposition Whoop as a full-fledged health management platform. “This marks the beginning of WHOOP becoming a core interface for personal health management. With traditional healthcare remaining inaccessible for many, we are enabling users to take control of their health data,” Ahmed noted.
The Whoop 5.0 includes newly refined sensors that measure sleep cycles, recovery patterns, stress markers, and physical strain. It also comes with a haptic alarm feature. Meanwhile, the Whoop MG focuses on cardiovascular health, equipped with an ECG/Heart Screener and real-time blood pressure tracking. The ECG component has been authorized by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
Both devices support Whoop’s updated suite of features such as the new Sleep Performance Score, a tool that evaluates sleep quality with enhanced accuracy.
In addition to the new devices, Whoop has introduced expanded versions of its wristband designs, including refreshed SuperKnit, SportFlex, and CoreKnit models. It also debuted a lifestyle clothing line under the brand “Whoop Body,” marking the company’s entry into the athleisure space.
The company also highlighted the launch of the "Advanced Labs" tool within its mobile app. This feature enables users to schedule lab tests directly through the app interface, allowing for individualized reports on cardiovascular, hormonal, metabolic, and immune system health.
Whoop claims the latest bands are the brand’s most refined to date, available in multiple sizes and styles, including options made with Italian leather for continuous wear.
Access to the Whoop 5.0 and Whoop MG is provided through subscription tiers: Whoop One (-$199), Whoop Peak (-$239), and Whoop Life (-$359). In the Indian market, pricing remains in line with premium smartwatches from competitors like Samsung and Google.
The wearables have maintained popularity among elite athletes and performance-focused users. Football icon Cristiano Ronaldo remains an investor and global representative of the brand.
