Apple will release its latest mobile operating system, iOS 26, on Monday, Sept. 15, the company said following its “Awe Dropping” product showcase. The update will be offered at no cost to existing iPhone users.
The new version focuses on expanding Apple’s artificial intelligence functions, branded as Apple Intelligence. Live translation tools will cover more languages, while visual search will allow screenshots to be scanned instantly for relevant results. Apple said the upgrades are intended to refine system performance and place user content at the center of the experience.
iOS 26 also comes with a redesigned interface and updated naming convention first previewed during Apple’s Worldwide Developers Conference on June 9.
Alongside the software news, Apple introduced its iPhone 17 lineup. The collection includes the iPhone 17 Air, which takes the place of the outgoing Plus model and is now Apple’s slimmest iPhone. Pre-orders begin Sept. 12, and retail sales start Sept. 19.
