Chat Lock is a new feature introduced by WhatsApp that lets users password protect specific private conversations, bolstering the security features of the world's largest messaging application.

With this feature, users can lock chat threads, which will remove them from the inbox and store them behind a separate folder that can be accessed by a device password or biometrics, such as fingerprints.

According to the company, it will also automatically hide the sender's name and the message's content in notifications.

Choosing the lock option after tapping a person's or group's name locks chats. After pulling down on their inbox, one can enter their phone password or fingerprint to access their chats later. Globally, the feature is being rolled out to WhatsApp users on both iOS and Android.

Having this feature will be useful when family members or friends share their mobile phones with them or when they receive a private message while their phone is in their hands.

As part of its Chat Lock initiative, WhatsApp will add new features in the coming months, including the ability to lock companion devices and create custom chat passwords.

After introducing a slew of security features last month, Meta-owned messaging app introduces this feature. Accounts can be moved to another device using automated security codes, device verification, and extra checks.
