WhatsApp Adds Creative New Features to Make Status More Personal

On Friday, May 30, WhatsApp announced a set of new features aimed at making its Status feature more expressive and engaging. The popular messaging platform is giving users fresh ways to share personal moments whether it's birthday snapshots, everyday memories, or mood-setting music.
These new updates are designed to make WhatsApp Status a more creative and meaningful space. Here’s what’s coming:
1. Layouts
Users can now create a collage using up to six photos, arranged exactly the way they want with easy drag-and-drop editing tools. Whether it’s a highlight reel from a trip or a family gathering, Layouts help bring moments together in one frame.
2. Music Status
Have a song that fits your mood or marks the moment perfectly? The new Music Status feature lets you post a song as the focus of your update. You can also use a music sticker to enhance your post and set the tone for the day.
3. Photo Stickers
Turn any photo into a sticker with a few taps. Resize, reshape, and position the image however you like to give your status a personalized touch. It’s a fun and unique way to tell your story visually.
4. ‘Add Yours’ Prompts
Looking to start a conversation? Use the new ‘Add Yours’ sticker on a status photo to invite friends to respond with their own take. Their replies will appear on their own statuses, creating a thread of shared perspectives.
WhatsApp confirmed that these features will roll out gradually and will be available to all users in the coming months.
WhatsApp in India
India continues to be WhatsApp’s largest market, with over 596 million monthly active users as of 2024. The app’s intuitive interface, support for multiple Indian languages, and wide accessibility have made it essential for both personal and business communication — especially in rural areas.
WhatsApp has also strengthened its role in India's digital ecosystem through WhatsApp Pay, making the app not just a communication tool, but also a growing platform for digital transactions.
With these new features, WhatsApp is doubling down on its goal to help users express themselves more freely and connect more deeply through its platform.
