Apple is set to unveil its next flagship smartphones, the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max, next month. Early reports indicate significant updates in design, battery, camera, and performance, with differences extending beyond display size.
Both iPhone 17 Pro models are expected to adopt an aluminium frame, moving away from the titanium bodies used in previous generations. A rectangular camera module with three lenses is likely to replace the current design, located at the top-left corner on the back panel. The Apple logo may also see a slight repositioning. The Pro Max version could be around 5 per cent thicker than the iPhone 16 Pro Max, mainly to house a larger battery, whereas the standard Pro is expected to maintain dimensions similar to its predecessor.
The iPhone 17 Pro Max is anticipated to feature a 5,000 mAh battery, an upgrade from the 4,676 mAh in the previous model. The iPhone 17 Pro may retain the current capacity, creating a difference in battery life between the two devices. Both smartphones are expected to run on Apple’s A19 Pro chipset, built using TSMC’s 3nm technology, paired with 12GB RAM—the first time Apple is equipping iPhones with this memory. Storage options are likely to start at 256GB. The enhanced RAM could also improve AI-based operations and overall device responsiveness.
This year, Apple may standardise the camera setup across both Pro models. The triple 48MP rear sensors will include wide, ultra-wide, and periscope telephoto lenses, providing identical zoom and low-light capabilities. The front camera is rumoured to receive a 24MP upgrade, enhancing selfies and video call clarity. Unlike previous launches, the Pro Max may not hold any exclusive camera advantages over the Pro.
Both iPhone 17 Pro variants are expected to retain ProMotion OLED screens with a 120Hz refresh rate. Current leaks suggest no major differences in brightness or resolution between the two models.
Industry insiders suggest Apple will announce the iPhone 17 series on September 9, 2025, with pre-orders opening shortly afterward. In India, pricing may start at Rs 1,45,000 for the iPhone 17 Pro and Rs 1,64,990 for the Pro Max. Colour options could include White, Black, Dark Blue, Orange, and Grey.
