Vivo has entered the mixed reality segment with its first headset, named Vision, adding competition to a category pioneered by Apple and expanded by Meta’s Quest lineup. The company unveiled the device in China last week, highlighting lighter weight and improved comfort, targeting a different approach from other premium headsets in the market.
The Vision headset features a visor-style design, echoing elements from Apple’s Vision Pro while focusing on reducing bulk. The device is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon XR2+ Gen 2 platform, offering improved GPU and CPU performance compared to its predecessor. Vivo says the headset delivers a 175-degree vertical tracking range and supports gesture-based navigation through pinch-and-move controls.
The headset is equipped with dual micro-OLED displays capable of 8K resolution, with panels tuned for high-quality visuals while aiming to minimize strain during extended use. At 398 grams, the device is over 200 grams lighter than Apple’s Vision Pro.
Vivo’s proprietary software, OriginOS Vision, powers the device and introduces features such as split-screen multitasking and live sports viewing. However, the company has acknowledged the importance of third-party developer support for apps before attempting a broader rollout.
At present, Vivo has not provided pricing details or a release timeline. Industry speculation suggests the Vision headset will remain exclusive to the Chinese market initially, with in-store demos planned before commercial availability. Analysts expect it to follow a strategy similar to Apple’s Vision Pro, targeting a niche audience rather than mass-market adoption.
