Swiss luxury watchmaker Vacheron Constantin has set a new record with its latest creation—the most complicated mechanical wristwatch ever made. Unveiled at the 2025 Watches and Wonders trade fair in Geneva, this one-of-a-kind timepiece, named Les Cabinotiers Solaria Ultra Grand Complication, boasts an incredible 41 functions—more than any wristwatch in history.

A Marvel of Precision and Miniaturization

This extraordinary watch does more than just tell time. It tracks the sun’s movement, chimes with four miniature gongs, and even calculates when specific zodiac constellations will be visible from Earth. It also features three different time measurements:

Standard 24-hour time

Sidereal time (which is about four minutes shorter than a regular day)

Solar time (which adjusts for Earth’s elliptical orbit)

With 1,521 components and over 200 jewels, including sapphire discs, this wristwatch is a masterpiece of innovation that took eight years to develop. Its case, crafted from 18-karat white gold, houses an intricate system of gears, calendars, chronographs, and astronomical displays.

A Modern, Yet Complex Design

Unlike traditional ornate luxury watches, the Solaria Ultra Grand Complication has a sleek, modern look. Its minimalist front dial enhances readability, while the back resembles a car dashboard with a grey, technical-style design.

Despite its complexity, Vacheron Constantin ensured the watch remains wearable, fitting all its advanced features into a 45mm case—less than half the size of its record-holding Berkley Grand Complication pocket watch, which boasts 63 complications.

A New Benchmark in Watchmaking

Vacheron Constantin, founded in 1755, is renowned for pushing the limits of horology. The brand has filed 13 patents for this watch, seven of which protect its chiming mechanism.

According to Christian Selmoni, the company’s Style & Heritage Director, the goal was to miniaturize the most important complications—timekeeping, calendar, chronograph, and chiming—onto a single plate while keeping astronomical functions on a separate layer. This meticulous design allows the watch to maintain harmonious proportions while delivering an unmatched level of precision.

Redefining the Future of Luxury Watches

With this groundbreaking creation, Vacheron Constantin has redefined what’s possible in wristwatch technology. The Solaria Ultra Grand Complication is not just a timepiece—it’s a mechanical marvel, proving that luxury watchmaking is as much about innovation as it is about tradition.
