The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) is all set to roll out a new feature on the recently launched Aadhaar app which will allow users to update their addresses directly from their mobile phones. This is a major breakthrough since it will put an end to the practice of visiting the enrollment centers every time one has to change their address.

UIDAI has shared this information with the public through a post on X (which was previously known as Twitter) that the new feature is going to be digital secure verification, as it will be done with a combination of one-time password (OTP) and face recognition to authenticate the Aadhaar users. The authority has made this announcement, “Coming Soon! Update Address in Aadhaar from the comfort of your home through OTP & Face Authentication.”

The application will be using a double verification system to ensure security. To begin with, the user will be sent an OTP to his/her registered phone number. The next step would be an app-based facial scan through which the live facial data will be compared with the Aadhaar database and thus the user will be verified without having to show any physical documents.

UIDAI states that the process to be followed will be very easy and convenient for the users. The users will have to provide their Aadhaar number, select a language of their choice, confirm the OTP, and then complete the face authentication. Besides this, the users will create a six-digit security PIN to protect their Aadhaar profile inside the app.

Update Address Steps in Aadhaar App

Download Aadhaar App: The app is for Android users on Google Play Store and iOS users on the Apple App Store.

Aadhaar Number: Start the app, choose your language and enter your 12-digit Aadhaar number.

OTP Verification: Finish verification by completing the OTP sent to your registered mobile number.

Face Authentication: Go through the face scan that is required to verify identity.

Set Security PIN: Generate a six-digit PIN for safeguarding your Aadhaar profile.

This change is anticipated to facilitate the process of altering one's address more easily, securely, and to the user-friendliest extent possible for all Aadhaar holders all over India, thus cutting down the requirement of personal verification at the enrollment centers.
