Apple has just rolled out the iOS 26.1 developer beta 4, which marks the introduction of major customization features that are intended to put the users at the center of the interface. The update considers the input of the users for earlier beta versions and specifically tackles the issue of the Liquid Glass design which has been a point of contention.
The most prominent feature among the new options is the introduction of a transparency control in Display & Brightness, which enables users to toggle between Clear and Tinted modes. Clear keeps the present see-through look, while Tinted adds opacity and contrast over the entire system interfaces.
This modification is done across the entire system, thus affecting both the native and third-party apps that implement the Liquid Glass, as well as the Lock Screen notifications. Similar options have just rolled out for iPadOS 26.1 and macOS Tahoe 26.1 beta 4, which means that Apple is insisting on quality consistency across devices.
For the first time in a long time, iPhone users can now turn off the Lock Screen swipe-to-camera action. The function can be found by heading to Settings > Camera, and it can be switched on or off by selecting the toggle that prevents unintended camera takes when swiping left. The users can still take advantage of the camera from the Lock Screen by using the button, the Control Center, the iPhone 16 Camera Control, and the Action button which is on iPhone 15 Pro and newer models.
Other changes in the beta version include the renaming of the Apple TV service, which now simply goes by Apple TV and has dropped the "plus" from its title, and the addition of eight more languages to the support cluster of Apple Intelligence. These added languages are Chinese Traditional, Danish, Dutch, Norwegian, Portuguese, Swedish, Turkish, and Vietnamese. At the same time, AirPods Live Translation is made compatible with Chinese Mandarin, Italian, Japanese, and Korean.
It is anticipated that in a week or so, Apple will release iOS 26.1 to all users thereby offering the whole user base the new features and improvements.
