Microsoft has initiated the preview rollout of the Windows 11 25H2 update to participants in its Windows Insider Program. This version, targeted as the next annual update, will see broader deployment in the second half of 2025.
The preview is exclusive to devices registered under the Dev Channel of the Windows Insider Program. Interested users must:
1. Join the Windows Insider Program.
2. Select the Dev Channel.
3. Go to Settings > Windows Update.
4. Check for updates and install the build tagged 25H2.
The update installs using a revised method aimed at reducing installation time by minimizing system downtime during the process.
The 25H2 build introduces a significantly reduced update package, approximately 40 per cent smaller than prior versions. This change improves download efficiency and conserves storage space.
The update also leverages Microsoft's unified servicing branch via "enablement packages" (eKB), streamlining both major and minor update deliveries.
Following installation, the system’s support schedule is refreshed:
* Enterprise and Education editions receive updates for 36 months.
* Pro, Pro Education, and Pro for Workstations editions receive updates for 24 months.
The 25H2 version maintains system continuity by sharing its core architecture with Windows 11 24H2. This ensures consistent operation and compatibility across supported devices.
