Samsung is pushing a significant software update for select Galaxy Watch models, introducing several health-focused features as part of the One UI 8 Watch upgrade. These enhancements are arriving just ahead of the expected Galaxy Watch 8 series launch in July.

Reddit users have reported the early appearance of these tools on compatible devices. The update is currently being rolled out through Samsung's beta program for Galaxy Watch5 and newer models. However, most new features are expected to function fully only on the upcoming Galaxy Watch 8 and later.

A new AI-based Running Coach has been added to help users fine-tune their running routines. By analyzing real-time pace and movement during runs lasting over 12 minutes, the feature generates a performance score from 1 to 10. It then creates a tailored training plan for goals like 5K or marathon preparation.

This feature mirrors Apple's recent Workout Buddy, focusing on personalized guidance and motivation.

Samsung's Bedtime Guidance function reviews sleep data from the past three nights to determine the ideal bedtime. The system factors in sleep pressure and circadian rhythm to recommend optimal rest windows—particularly useful for users with inconsistent schedules.

Vascular Load tracks the heart rate throughout the night to assess cardiovascular strain during sleep. By comparing nighttime heart activity with daily stress and workout patterns, the watch offers insights into heart health and suggests improvements in daily routines.

A new Antioxidant Index feature evaluates the presence of carotenoids in the body—antioxidants found in fruits and vegetables like carrots and spinach. The Galaxy Watch measures this using its built-in BioActive sensor when users press their thumb to the device. Readings are available within five seconds.

Samsung claims this addition helps users monitor aging-related biomarkers and supports lifestyle improvements.

The update is accessible via Samsung's beta program for users of Galaxy Watch5 and above, with the full suite of features optimized for Watch8 models and later.
