Major announcements dominated the gaming industry Thursday as Hollow Knight: Silksong officially released worldwide and IO Interactive confirmed a March 2026 debut for its upcoming James Bond title 007: First Light.
Gamers across regions can now access Silksong, the long-awaited follow-up to Team Cherry’s Hollow Knight. The release, which went live at 3 p.m. UK time, marks a significant milestone for one of indie gaming’s most anticipated titles.
Meanwhile, IO Interactive detailed its next Bond adventure, confirming 007: First Light will launch on March 27, 2026. The title will release on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, PC, and Nintendo’s Switch successor. A $300 collector’s edition was also announced, featuring exclusive in-game content and merchandise.
Industry updates continued throughout the day, including Amazon’s casting announcement for its Tomb Raider live-action series. Sophie Turner, known for her role in Game of Thrones, will star as Lara Croft. The series is being developed by Phoebe Waller-Bridge.
Nintendo also introduced a hidden Easter egg to its Switch Online Classics app. Players who interact with the analog stick when launching the Game Boy Advance emulator will see the system’s classic startup animation.
In other news, IO Interactive addressed the poor reception of MindsEye, a title it distributed under its publishing division. CEO Hakan Abrak acknowledged the release “was not what we hoped for” and noted the studio will prioritize publishing its own projects. The future of IOI’s external publishing label remains uncertain.
Thursday’s announcements highlight a busy day for gaming fans, as the industry prepares for a packed 2026 release schedule while celebrating one of the year’s most highly anticipated indie launches.
