Elon Musk’s Starlink satellite internet service is set to launch in India by January 2026, promising speeds up to 225 Mbps for users across rural and urban regions.
Finally, after decades of waiting, Elon Musk's Starlink project is ready to begin operations in India and spread high-speed satellite internet even to the remotest corners of the country. With all major operational permissions almost complete, the advent of Starlink is set to revamp the internet connectivity landscape in the hitherto poorly-connected areas.

The satellite-based system of Starlink promises great internet speed between 25 Mbps and 225 Mbps, based on whatever plan is implemented.
- Basic Plan: Roughly 25 Mbps, which should be sufficient for casual browsing, video streaming, and video calling.
- Premium Plan: Should be able to pick up to 225 Mbps on heavy consumption, gaming, and professional usage.
Starlink has, however, never officially confirmed any exact plan or pricing tier. Early reports suggest that the customer can expect a steady, low-latency connection. This represents a major upgrade for places badly served by broadband or mobile network services.
Starlink India entry has been approved by the Government of India with a subscriber cap of 20 lakh (initially) to keep some equilibrium in the existing telecom ecosystem.

Starlink seems to have obtained some key regulatory clearances, however it is yet to receive clearance for SATCOM gateway sites, spectrum allocation, and the final license. These clearances are expected to be secured by the end of 2025, with the nationwide rollout all set for January 2026.

Reportedly, the pricing proposed for Starlink India looks something like:
- Setup charges: Rs 30,000 (includes Starlink dish, router, and installation)
- Monthly charges starting from: Rs 3,300 per month
- The basic plan is expected to yield 25 Megabits per second, whereas high-end packages may sell for a premium, with speeds of up to 225 Mbps.
But prices have never been made official yet and could very well change until the formal launch of Starlink in India. One of the major challenges would be to convince Indian users to shell out an upfront setup cost of 30,000 rupees, which is very high as compared to conventional broadband.

Unlike traditional providers, Starlink literally charges the Internet directly from space by means of low-Earth orbit (LEO) satellites. This essentially shortens distances, avoiding much dependency on intervening ground infrastructures, suitable for:
