Xiaomi has launched the Redmi 15C 5G with the main intention of attracting customers who are looking for a cost-effective phone as well as those who are looking to upgrade their older 4G smartphones. With a starting price of Rs 12,499, the unit is all about functionality, battery life, and a broad screen, although a few compromises are seen when it comes to resolution and software experience.

The Redmi 15C 5G comes with a MediaTek Dimensity 6300 processor and UFS 2.2 storage. This combination not only delivers efficient performance but also an enjoyable experience for activities, which include browsing, social media, casual gaming, and even multitasking. The device supports 5G network and is equipped with a side-mounted fingerprint sensor that adds convenience and speed to ordinary use.

The main characteristic of the Redmi 15C 5G that impresses the most is its 6,000mAh battery, which, by the way, lasts up to two days of usage with ease for casual users. In usage tests, the phone managed to sustain more than 24 hours of use. It is equipped with 33W fast charging, and a charger is provided in the box. Moreover, a 10W reverse charging feature is available for users to charge their accessories such as earphones or smartwatches.

The device has a 6.9-inch LCD screen with a 120Hz refresh rate. The display is just about enough to watch videos, browse, and do some light scrolling of social media. The HD+ resolution (720 x 1,600 pixels) does not help with sharpness or detail but because of the big size and pretty good color rendering it is still okay for media consumption. The high refresh rate contributes to smooth scrolling and responsive navigation through user interface.

The Redmi 15C 5G utilizes Xiaomi's HyperOS 2, an Android 15 based system, which will be the main software for the phone. The user will find lots of pre-installed apps and system-level ads that can only be turned off one by one. Even though Xiaomi promises two years of OS updates, the first software experience could be very messy, with the users’ choice of a clean, ad-free environment being the only barrier to that.

The phone that has a huge screen is still subjected to the relatively low pixel density (254ppi) and even with that, the thick bezels are still prominent, especially at the bottom. These design decisions result in the display being less up-to-date looking and overall a poorer viewing experience.

On the whole, the Redmi 15C 5G is a tempting option for those buyers who are looking for the best battery along with the largest display at the lowest price. The very opposite will hold true for the ones who will have to compromise on high resolution displays, camera performance and a smooth software experience and will have to search the competitive entry-level 5G segment for an alternative.
