Samsung's first tri-fold smartphone, the Galaxy Z TriFold, incorporates a new wireless charging system that is redesigned completely, and the system is critical to the device's being slim however its complicated folding structure.

The new smart mobile device merges a 6.5-inch outer screen with a foldable display that goes up to almost 10 inches. The achievement of that form factor necessitated serious internal redesigns, one of which was the development of a thinner wireless charging component exclusively for the device.

Industry sources have revealed that the Qi wireless charging module inside the Galaxy Z TriFold is from Witz, a longstanding Samsung partner. The company made a small induction charging unit specifically for the tri-fold design, which has a maximum of 15 watts under the Wireless Power Consortium's Qi standard.

Witz has been the supplier of charging hardware to Samsung for several Galaxy S and Galaxy Z models. However, this time around the company has made a custom slim-profile module for a tri-fold smartphone, which it has never done before.

According to Witz, they have worked with Samsung to validate the module for stability during charging and then Samsung selected the module for its first device with three folding sections.

The Galaxy Z TriFold is Qi2 Ready certified. The certification implies the absence of internal alignment magnets in the phone but it can still work with Qi2 magnetic accessories when used with a compatible case that has built-in magnets.

Samsung has not changed its wireless charging speeds for this particular model. For the last five years, Samsung has maintained the maximum wireless charging of 15W for its premium Galaxy devices even though wired charging speeds have gone up.

That limit might be lifted soon. Reports have emerged that Samsung is going to implement the faster wireless charging feature all over the Galaxy S26 series, which is expected to be released next year. The Galaxy S26, Galaxy S26+, and Galaxy S26 Ultra are all rumored to get the Qi2.2 certification and have internal magnets, thereby eliminating the need for magnetic cases.

As per supply chain leaks, the Galaxy S26 and Galaxy S26+ might receive support for wireless charging of up to 20W, while the Galaxy S26 Ultra will possibly have a 25W limit. If that happens, it will be considered the first significant wireless charging development by Samsung in several years.

Currently, the Galaxy Z TriFold denotes Samsung’s concentration on engineering efficiency—cutting down component thickness while still keeping the established charging capacity.
