Samsung revealed its first tri-fold smartphone, the Galaxy TriFold, at the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit in South Korea. Industry insiders have reported that the device was shown in both unfolded and folded forms and was truly its three-panel design revealing through dual hinges.
Samsung’s Mate XT, which alternates between the outward and inside fusions, is not mentioned in the description, whereas Samsung's design goes inwards on both sides. An observer indicated that the transition of the fold starts from the right and then the left, giving the shape of a compact smartphone that is as thick as the Galaxy S25 Ultra. This is the Flex G concept that Samsung's took back to CES 2022.
The Galaxy TriFold will have a massive 10-inch OLED that will be divided into three units with the 6.5-inch external display. The tri-fold would not only take care of the user’s limited pocket space but would also be able to give them the opportunity to use a tablet-like feature when opened.
The phone is rumored to come with Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy processor and up to 16GB RAM and 1TB storage. Patent filings are indicative of a three-module battery setup, probably one for each foldable section, giving support to both wireless and reverse wireless charging.
The mobile phone is predicted to have a triple rear camera system where the 200MP main sensor is the driver with an ultra-wide angle lens and a telephoto lens with 100x digital zoom, thus, replicating the imaging technology of the Galaxy S Ultra series.
Although Samsung has not yet provided the full specification list or clarified whether the APEC devices are the final ones, the public disclosure indicates that the Galaxy TriFold is very close to being ready, with a 2025 release likely.
The announcement of a tri-fold smartphone by Samsung indicates the latter's intention to be the first in the way of foldable devices, the new shape resembling neither the old clamshells nor the single-fold designs. The analysts do envision the phone to be on par with the premium foldables in terms of both performance and imaging.
