Samsung has begun distributing its One UI 7 update in New Zealand, marking the long-awaited release for local users. This new update, built on Android 15, promises significant improvements in design, performance, and customization options, following months of anticipation.
The update, which exceeds 5GB in size, includes the April 2025 security patch and is identified by software version BYD9. One UI 7 introduces a fresh design overhaul, including updated icons, an enhanced notification panel, and refined widgets, providing a more modern user experience.
Performance improvements are a key feature of the update. Users can expect faster app launches, better battery performance, and smoother animations. Privacy controls have also been upgraded, allowing for more precise app permission management and enhanced data security.
The update is initially available for Samsung's Galaxy S24 series, with plans to extend to other models, including older Galaxy S series, A series, foldable devices, and tablets in the coming weeks. Users can check for the update by navigating to Settings > Software Update. Samsung recommends backing up devices before proceeding with the installation to mitigate potential issues.
This rollout marks the first step in Samsung's plan to release One UI 7 to a broader audience. Following New Zealand, Galaxy users in Japan are expected to receive the update soon, though they are still awaiting the major software update in the region.
