Samsung has initiated its July 2025 monthly security update rollout, addressing significant vulnerabilities, while Google's Android and Pixel devices see an unexpected absence of new security patches.

In its latest release, Samsung has issued fixes for one critical and 21 high-risk vulnerabilities tied to Android’s July bulletin. Additionally, the company resolved 17 internal issues, including security flaws related to its proprietary chipsets. This update is part of Samsung’s ongoing effort to safeguard Galaxy users, especially as concerns mount about phones stuck on outdated versions.

In contrast, Google has provided no new patches this month. The July 2025 Android Security Bulletin explicitly states there are no Android security updates, and Pixel's security notice echoes the same. The absence of Qualcomm fixes—expected after the previous month's mandate from U.S. federal authorities—adds to growing concerns.

Security experts warn the gap between Pixel and Galaxy software support may widen further. While Samsung continues work on One UI 8, its Android 16-based OS upgrade, a public release this month appears unlikely. Yet Samsung’s consistent security maintenance is drawing attention, especially as Pixel devices stall.

Samsung’s updates do face criticism for their fragmented rollout. The company’s patch distribution spans weeks, covering different models, regions, and carriers at varying times. Devices without seamless update capability remain especially vulnerable until patches reach them.

Adding to the pressure, users on older Android versions are becoming more exposed. Devices limited to Android 12 and earlier are no longer supported by Google and may lose functionality due to changes in the Play Integrity API. Samsung recommends users upgrade their devices if they are ineligible for Android 13 or newer.

Galaxy users are strongly encouraged to install the July update as soon as it becomes available on their device. Despite Google’s silence this month, Samsung’s proactive approach highlights a growing contrast in Android ecosystem security strategies.
