Samsung is preparing to release its One UI 8 interface, built on Android 16, with a strong emphasis on expanded security protocols for Galaxy smartphones and tablets. The beta rollout has already begun, and the full release is expected soon.
The company is introducing a range of security enhancements, driven by Android 16’s core improvements. One UI 8 will offer nine security options users can activate directly from device settings.
Among the key updates is the Inactivity Reboot function, which automatically restarts a device if it remains unused and locked for 72 hours. Google Play Protect continues its role by identifying and restricting harmful apps, while blocking access to older 2G networks to prevent data interception.
Android Safe Browsing is also integrated, limiting exposure to unsafe websites. Users attempting to visit non-HTTPS pages will be alerted to potential risks.
Samsung will carry over advanced safeguards introduced in One UI 7, such as:
* Theft Detection Lock: Employs machine learning to detect abrupt device movement, locking the phone if snatching is suspected.
* Offline Device Lock: Secures the phone if it stays offline beyond a set duration.
* Remote Locking: Enables users to lock a lost or stolen phone remotely through a verified number.
Further, an Identity Check layer has been added. This mechanism prompts a biometric scan if settings are altered from an unfamiliar location.
