One of Samsung's most recognisable characteristics is apparently undergoing a daring update. The next Galaxy S26 Ultra may not include the built-in S-Pen, which would mean the end of an era for fans of styluses, according to a number of media stories, including a thorough leak referenced by Android Authority.

It's likely that S-Pen will be taken out of S26 Ultra.

Based on reliable industry sources, the rumour asserts that Samsung intends to discontinue the Galaxy S26 Ultra's built-in S-Pen slot. As is already the case with the Galaxy Z Fold series, the smartphone may instead take a more modular approach.

Similar to Apple's Pencil, the S-Pen will probably become an external item that customers must carry separately rather than being integrated into the phone.

Why Has It Changed?

using this change in design, Samsung would be able to redesign the phone's internal parts, especially to enable Qi2 wireless charging using a magnetic ring. To enable MagSafe-like accessories on Samsung's S25 Ultra, an additional ring is now needed. The S26 Ultra could incorporate internal magnets and enable more sophisticated charging and accessory functionality by doing away with the stylus slot.

Motivated by Foldables

According to the source, Samsung is also planning to include design aspects from the next Galaxy Z Fold 7, which already has an active, detachable S-Pen. With an active stylus that is external to the device, the S26 Ultra is anticipated to follow suit, bringing it closer to the brand's foldables than its conventional flagships.

📱 What This Means for Users

If confirmed, this would be a significant change in Samsung’s flagship design philosophy. While some may welcome the sleeker body and improved tech features, others may miss the convenience of the embedded stylus that has been a signature feature of the Ultra lineup.

Stay tuned for official updates as Samsung gears up to unveil the Galaxy S26 series in the coming months.
