Just days before Apple’s much-anticipated “Awe Dropping” event on September 9, fresh leaks of the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S26 Edge have taken the internet by storm, sparking debate over its striking new design and ultra-thin profile.

Galaxy S26 Edge renders reveal bold redesign

Leaked renders, shared by tipster OnLeaks in collaboration with Android Headlines, showcase what could be Samsung’s most daring smartphone design yet. The Galaxy S26 Edge reportedly features super-slim bezels and a horizontal dual-camera module, departing from the vertical triple-lens setup of its predecessor, the S25 Edge.

The design shift has drawn comparisons to the iPhone 17 Pro dummy models recently displayed at IFA 2025. While Apple is expected to retain a triple-camera system, Samsung’s choice of a dual-lens setup has already set off discussions about which tech giant is inspiring the other.

One of the thinnest phones ever?

Another major highlight is the S26 Edge’s incredibly slim profile. Reports suggest it could measure just 5.5mm in thickness (10.8mm including the camera bump), making it thinner than the already sleek S25 Edge and potentially one of the slimmest smartphones ever launched.

The device is also rumoured to include built-in Qi2 wireless charging magnets, a feature already familiar to iPhone and Pixel users. Additionally, industry chatter hints that the S26 Edge might replace Samsung’s long-running “Plus” variant, signalling a shake-up in its product strategy.

Apple’s turn on September 9

Despite Samsung’s leak stealing headlines, all eyes are still on Apple’s September 9 event. Scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. PT (10:30 p.m. IST), the showcase is expected to unveil the iPhone 17 series, including the slimmer iPhone 17 Air, alongside the Pro and Pro Max models. New AirPods and accessories are also likely to feature in the lineup.

Samsung vs Apple: design face-off

With both companies leaning toward ultra-thin builds, the rivalry has reignited questions of design inspiration. Is Samsung mirroring Apple’s direction, or is Apple catching up to Samsung’s bold redesign?

Either way, 2025 could go down as the year of the slimmest smartphones yet, with consumers the ultimate winners in this design showdown.
