Samsung has begun rolling out the Android 16-based One UI 8 update for its Galaxy S22 lineup in Europe, according to tipster Tarun Vats. This marks the final major operating system upgrade for the series.
The Galaxy S22, S22 Plus, and S22 Ultra were launched with Android 12 and were promised four OS upgrades. With the arrival of One UI 8, Samsung has fulfilled this commitment, providing users with the latest Android iteration before ending major OS support.
Users seeking Android 17 or future One UI 9 updates will need to upgrade to the Galaxy S23 series or newer models. Samsung’s advanced 7 OS upgrade cycle will only be available for the S24 series and subsequent devices.
Despite the cessation of major OS updates, Samsung will continue to deliver security patches for the Galaxy S22 lineup for an additional year, ensuring protection against potential cybersecurity threats. This allows existing users to continue using their devices safely while evaluating the need for a new phone.
