Report: Meta Bets $15 Billion in Scale AI

Meta Platforms is set to buy a 49% stake in artificial intelligence startup Scale AI worth over $14.8 billion, The Information reported.

Founded in 2016, Scale AI is engaged in providing vast amounts of labeled data, crucial for developing sophisticated tools such as OpenAI's ChatGPT.

As per reports, though the deal has not been finalised, it appears to be beneficial for the company’s investors, which includes Accel, Index Ventures, Founders Fund and Greenoaks Capital, as well as its current and former employees.

Meta, Scale AI and the startup's investors did not immediately respond to Reuters' requests for comment.

The report said that Scale AI CEO Alexandr Wang will assume a top position inside Meta, heading a new “superintelligence” lab.

Meta also faces antitrust concerns regarding its acquisitions of Instagram and WhatsApp.

Valued at $13.8 billion in a funding round, Scale AI reported a revenue of $870 million in 2024 and expects to cross more than $2 billion this year.
