Nintendo announced that Pokémon Legends Z-A will launch on October 16, 2025, for both the current Nintendo Switch and the upcoming Switch 2. Preorders have begun across various retailers in both digital and physical formats.
The version designed for Switch 2 is more than a basic port. It features enhanced resolution, sharper textures, smoother frame rates, improved lighting, and quicker load times, particularly in busy locations like Lumiose City. These upgrades address earlier performance issues seen on the original Switch hardware.
Preorders are available through the Nintendo eShop, which offers pre-loading for immediate access upon release. The Pokémon Center is including a free Sitting Cuties plush featuring Chikorita, Tepig, or Totodile with orders while supplies last. Walmart promises an exclusive bonus for physical preorders, and Best Buy and Amazon offer both editions with the possibility of early delivery through Amazon.
Pricing differs between platforms. The standard Switch edition is priced at $59.99, while the Switch 2 edition costs -$69.99. Nintendo also offers a $10 upgrade pack allowing current Switch owners to pay the difference later to access the enhanced Switch 2 version.
Choosing the Switch 2 edition makes sense for players who want the best graphics and performance and plan to upgrade to the new console. It also likely ensures longer software support and access to future updates. The original Switch version remains fully playable, with the option to upgrade later, making it suitable for players without immediate plans to change hardware.
Collectors looking for special bonuses, players focused on performance, and those intending to adopt the Switch 2 early should consider preordering the enhanced edition. For others, the standard Switch release offers the full gameplay experience with flexibility on upgrades.
Preorders are live now, and bonus items may be limited.
