Google Pixel smartphones were the first to receive the Android 16 stable release, which introduced features like Advanced Protection Mode and improved call safety tools. However, post-update feedback from users highlights serious lock screen-related issues affecting daily use.
Reports surfaced across the Pixel Help forums and Reddit, detailing problems such as tap-to-wake failures, screens remaining black or responding slowly to the power button, inconsistent brightness, and malfunctioning fingerprint sensors. Some users also encountered sluggish performance and crashing apps once they gained access to the phone.
These complications have persisted for several weeks. To address them temporarily, affected users have been attempting device restarts. Unfortunately, these efforts only deliver short-term relief before the issues return.
A product expert responding on Google’s support forum advised resetting adaptive brightness settings as a workaround for brightness fluctuations. Users can navigate to Settings > Apps > All apps > Device Health Services > Storage and cache > Clear storage > Reset adaptive brightness.
Google has officially acknowledged the problems and confirmed a fix is under development. No estimated date for the patch release has been provided.
