Pixel 8: Cutting-Edge Features, But Is It Worth the Price Tag?

The Pixel 8 series by Google, although feature-packed, faces challenges due to its high price in India. The base model starts at Rs 74,999, and the Pixel 8 Pro costs a hefty Rs 1,06,999. This significant cost presents a barrier for the majority of Indian consumers, given the average monthly income.

Import duties and the premium components used in the Pixel 8 series contribute to its high price in the Indian market. Despite its popularity among a niche segment, the cost remains prohibitive for many. Google could potentially reduce import duties and explore local manufacturing to make these smartphones more affordable. Offering special discounts and financing options through its own stores, as Apple has done with iPhones, could enhance the appeal to Indian consumers.

To further build trust, Google may need to expand its authorized service centers, which are currently limited to a few Indian cities. While the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro are undoubtedly impressive smartphones, affordability remains a key factor for their success in India.
