Not only did Google surprise everyone by coming up with a second software update for its Pixel devices so soon after the December patch, but it has even been rumored that the new software is also a reaction to the recent reports of new spyware targeting mobile users which is in fact similar to Apple's response for iPhones done earlier this month.
As per the sources from Android Authority, the latest update is less comprehensive than the first one, and it has been seen on several Pixel models such as Pixel series 8, 9 and 10. The source has confirmed getting the patch on a pixel 10 pro and mentioned that Google has not given any information about the specific changes, however, it is believed by security experts that the fix addresses a serious issue.
The announcement of this "hot fix" update is like a beacon of light, as it comes only two weeks after Google patched zero-day vulnerabilities. Initially, Reddit users had pointed out the update which has now been confirmed on multiple Pixel devices.
Though Pixel users enjoy quick responses, the situation in the Android ecosystem is quite the opposite- inconsistent. The updates for December have not even been started yet for some of the major manufacturers like Samsung, thus leaving certain devices vulnerable to attacks. The question still hangs if other OEMs will be rolling out a similar second patch this month.
The cybersecurity agencies keep on reminding users to always keep their devices updated and even suggest turning them off and on again every week to cut down on the risk. The issue of mobile spyware being non-restricted in number has led to timely updates being ordered for users of both Android and iOS.
