Perplexity has rolled out its AI-driven Comet browser in India for Pro subscribers, alongside the Email Assistant tool for Max plan users. The Comet browser, initially launched in July 2025, is available for Mac and Windows devices. Android users can now pre-order it through the Google Play Store, though the company has not provided a confirmed release date.

Aravind Srinivas, CEO of Perplexity, shared on X that Comet is “built on Perplexity’s AI search engine” and is designed to enhance efficiency for online research, work, and other internet-based activities.

Unlike standard browsers like Chrome or Edge, Comet replaces the traditional tab system with a unified workspace. This layout allows users to access all relevant information in one place, eliminating the need to toggle between multiple tabs.

A standout component of Comet is the Comet Assistant, an AI agent that automates routine online activities. The assistant can manage multiple tabs, summarize emails, review calendar events, and navigate websites on behalf of users. It monitors user interactions, including what has been read and current searches, to deliver tailored recommendations and streamline workflows.

Additionally, Comet includes an AI sidebar that serves as an interactive helper. Users can input instructions to perform tasks such as online purchases, scheduling, or converting web content into emails. Perplexity has indicated plans to expand the browser’s capabilities with future updates.

Alongside Comet, Perplexity launched the Email Assistant, an AI-powered tool designed to automate email-related tasks. The assistant can schedule meetings, prioritize messages, and draft replies. Currently, it supports Gmail and Outlook and is available exclusively to Max plan subscribers, which costs $200 per month. The Max plan was initially introduced in July 2025.

After activation, Email Assistant performs tasks as instructed without learning from individual emails, ensuring user privacy while replicating each user’s writing style for natural responses. The assistant connects directly to the user’s email account and can prioritize incoming messages, schedule events, or compose replies according to user directions, streamlining repetitive email management tasks.

Perplexity has emphasized that user data is protected. The AI does not use email content for model training, instead focusing on adapting to the user’s tone.

Both Comet and Email Assistant are expected to receive continuous improvements. Perplexity aims to expand Comet’s AI functionalities and enhance Email Assistant’s compatibility with additional email platforms. The company’s vision is to create an integrated AI ecosystem that facilitates web browsing, email management, and task automation.
