Oppo and Nothing have introduced new premium smartphones in India, intensifying competition in the sub-Rs 80,000 segment. Oppo unveiled the Reno 14 Pro and Reno 14 5G, targeting camera enthusiasts, while Nothing launched the Phone 3, claiming flagship credentials with a significantly higher price.
Oppo’s Reno 14 Pro retains the brand’s recognizable flat-edge design, but with refinements like a broader camera island and use of recycled aluminium. The addition of a textured Velvet Glass back gives it a premium touch.
Nothing, in contrast, takes a more experimental route. The Phone 3 features a new Glyph Matrix with 489 LEDs, replacing previous Glyph LEDs, and introduces a Glyph Button. This allows app shortcuts, notifications, and even mini games.
The Reno 14 Pro is equipped with a 6.83-inch LTPS OLED panel offering a 1.5K resolution and a dynamic 120Hz refresh rate. The screen supports HDR10+, peaks at 1200 nits brightness, and comes with Gorilla Glass 7i.
Nothing’s Phone 3 offers a slightly smaller 6.67-inch AMOLED screen, also supporting HDR10+. However, its standout feature is a peak brightness of 4500 nits. It too is protected by Gorilla Glass 7i.
Oppo’s device uses the MediaTek Dimensity 8450 processor, supported by 12GB RAM and up to 512GB storage. Performance is enhanced by AI Game Highlights and a dual-layer cooling system.
On the other hand, the Phone 3 runs on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 chip. While capable, the same chipset powers several less expensive devices in India. It offers 12GB or 16GB RAM options, but its value has been questioned due to pricing.
The Reno 14 Pro features a 6,200mAh battery—Oppo’s biggest in the Reno series—supporting 80W wired and 50W wireless charging.
The Nothing Phone 3 houses a 5,500mAh silicon-carbon battery, offering 65W wired charging, 15W wireless, and 5W reverse charging.
Oppo packs four 50MP sensors in the Reno 14 Pro, including a main lens with OIS, a periscope lens with 3.5x optical zoom, an ultra-wide lens, and a dedicated portrait sensor.
Nothing’s triple-camera setup includes a 50MP primary sensor, a 50MP ultra-wide lens, and a 50MP telephoto unit with 3x zoom. A 50MP front camera supports 4K video at 60fps.
The Reno 14 Pro starts at Rs 49,999 for the 12GB/256GB version and Rs 54,999 for the 512GB model. In contrast, the Phone 3 begins at Rs 79,999 for 12GB/256GB and Rs 89,999 for 16GB/512GB.
Despite the higher pricing, the Nothing Phone 3 brings unique design elements and brighter visuals. However, Oppo’s Reno 14 Pro delivers robust specs, an advanced camera system, and higher battery capacity—all at a significantly lower price.
