The Indian market has recently been graced with the OnePlus 15R, a smartphone from the Chinese company OnePlus, getting the brand into the premium mid-range segment that is mainly populated with devices like the Oppo Reno 14 Pro 5G. The new phone from OnePlus will be available in the market on the 22nd of December, promising a very interesting comparison between two devices that are priced closely yet come with distinct hardware and feature sets.

The OnePlus 15R comes at a price of Rs 47,999 for the variant with 12GB RAM and 256GB storage. The higher 512GB model is seen with a price of Rs 52,999. But with some bank offers, the price for the starting model is reduced to Rs 44,999 as effective starting price. The first sales will be conducted on the 22nd of December through Amazon, the OnePlus India website, as well as offline retail stores.

The Oppo Reno 14 Pro 5G is already available for purchase in India. The price for the 12GB RAM and 256GB storage variant is Rs 49,999, while the price for the 512GB variant is Rs 54,999. The device can be found at Oppo-authorized stores and major online platforms.

Both the OnePlus 15R and the Oppo Reno 14 Pro 5G come with large OLED displays with 1.5K resolution of 1,272 x 2,800 pixels and are protected by the Corning Gorilla Glass 7i . The refresh rate is one of the main differentiating factors even though the panel sizes are similar.

The 15R has 165Hz which is really nice as it makes scrolling and gaming smoother. Also the phone has some display controls like eye comfort reminders and reduced white point settings. Oppo on the other hands uses the 120Hz panel but adds splash and glove touch support. The display of the Reno 14 Pro is capable of reaching a maximum brightness of 1,200 nits which is very helpful in outdoor visibility.

The area where the OnePlus 15R stands out clearly is performance which is indicated by its paper. The device receives power from Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 chipset which is manufactured utilizing a 3nm process and has a clock speed of up to 3.8GHz. It is coupled with LPDDR5x Ultra RAM and UFS 4.1 storage.

Meanwhile, the Oppo Reno 14 Pro 5G is powered by MediaTek’s Dimensity 8450 processor which is constructed using 4nm technology together with 12GB RAM and 512GB storage, as a maximum. The chip is sufficient for everyday tasks but has lower capabilities than Qualcomm’s latest flagship in terms of raw specifications.

In terms of software, the OnePlus 15R comes pre-installed with Android 16-based OxygenOS 16. OnePlus has guaranteed four major Android updates and six years of security patches. On the other hand, the Oppo phone runs Android 15 with ColorOS 15.0.2 and heavily promotes AI-powered features that are made possible through the integration of Google Gemini.

Camera hardware is indicative of two different priorities. The OnePlus 15R boasts a dual rear camera system consisting of a 50-megapixel Sony IMX906 sensor featuring optical image stabilization and an 8-megapixel ultra-wide lens. The video recording capability is 4K at 120 fps and the image processing is done using algorithms from the flagship OnePlus 15 series.

On the other hand, the Oppo Reno 14 Pro 5G opts for a more extensive triple-camera configuration. This consists of a 50-megapixel main sensor, a 50-megapixel periscope telephoto camera with 3.5x optical zoom, and a 50-megapixel ultra-wide lens. Both the main and telephoto cameras have OIS support and can record 4K HDR videos at 60fps. For selfies, the Oppo provides a 50-megapixel front camera while the OnePlus 15R has a 32-megapixel front shooter.

Battery capacity is one area where the OnePlus 15R surpasses numerically. It contains a silicon carbon battery 7,400mAh which comes with 80W wired fast charging support. It is claimed by the company that the battery will keep around 80% capacity after four years of use.

The Oppo Reno 14 Pro 5G has a 6,200mAh smaller battery but brings in the flexibility of charging. In addition to the 80W wired SuperVOOC charging, the phone also supports 50W AirVOOC wireless charging, which is absent in the OnePlus model.

Both phones have the same connectivity features like 5G support, USB Type C ports, and precise navigation systems. However, the OnePlus 15R also brings in the latest wireless technologies like Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6.0, while the Oppo Reno 14 Pro 5G is limited to Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.4.

Both devices have an IP66, IP68, and IP69 rating which means they are protected against water and dust, so they are among the most rugged in the premium mid-range category.

The OnePlus 15R has a weight of 219 grams mainly due to its bigger battery and thicker structure. On the other hand, the Oppo Reno 14 Pro 5G is 201 grams lighter and has a thinner design especially in its Titanium Grey color.

Specification-wise, the OnePlus 15R is a device for those users who want the best processor performance, the largest battery capacity, and the longest software support. The Oppo Reno 14 Pro 5G is aimed at the photographer-audience who prefer a lightweight design and the convenience of wireless charging.

It is most likely that the final decision of the consumers will depend on which feature is more important for them in the sub-Rs 55,000 smartphone segment: flagship-level processing power or advanced camera hardware.
