Oppo A5i, A5i Pro Launched with Big Battery & 4G Power

Oppo has launched two new smartphones, the A5i and A5i Pro, powered by the Snapdragon 6s 4G Gen 1 chipset. Although the chip is a rebranded version of the Snapdragon 662, the devices bring updates in display, battery, and protection features.

Both models sport 6.67-inch HD+ LCD screens with a 90Hz refresh rate and peak brightness of 1,000 nits. While the A5i features standard LCD, the Pro variant uses an upgraded IPS panel. Anti-glare coating is included for better outdoor use.

Durability features include China Southern and Panda Glass on both sides, MIL-STD-810H testing, and SGS certification. The A5i holds an IP54 rating, while the A5i Pro offers IP65, improving resistance to dust and water. Wet-touch support is available on both phones.

Battery performance differs between models. The A5i carries a 5,100mAh battery with 45W fast charging. The A5i Pro is equipped with a larger 6,000mAh silicon-carbon (Si/C) battery, also supporting 45W charging. Despite the battery size, the Pro remains reasonably slim at 7.99mm and weighs 193g.

Camera specs reflect a notable upgrade in the Pro version. The A5i includes an 8MP rear and 5MP front camera, both limited to 1080p video at 30fps. The A5i Pro features a 50MP primary sensor with a wider f/1.85 aperture and a secondary depth module, although the front remains a 5MP camera.

Storage and memory configurations vary. The A5i offers 4GB or 6GB LPDDR4X RAM with either 64GB or 128GB eMMC 5.1 storage. The Pro steps up with 8GB RAM and 128GB UFS 2.1 storage.

Connectivity options include 4G LTE, Wi-Fi 5, Bluetooth with aptX, and side-mounted fingerprint scanners on both models. The A5i includes a 3.5mm headphone jack, while the Pro provides NFC and IR blaster support but omits the headphone port. It is priced at PHP 9,000 (approx. $160/€140/Rs 14,000). Color choices include Starry Purple and Nebula Red for the A5i, and Midnight Purple for the Pro model. Availability details for the A5i are yet to be confirmed.
