OnePlus is set to unveil the Nord 5 in India on July 8. While the company has kept several details under wraps, numerous leaks have outlined a comprehensive picture of the upcoming mid-range smartphone.
The OnePlus Nord 5 will be powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 chipset. This is a shift from the Snapdragon 7+ Gen 3 found in the Nord 4, signaling improved performance for gaming, multitasking, and demanding applications. Initial speculation pointed to the possibility of a MediaTek Dimensity 9400e chipset, but the Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 has now been confirmed.
The device is expected to feature a 7,000mAh battery — a capacity rarely seen in sub-Rs 30,000 smartphones. Fast charging is also anticipated, with leaked reports suggesting 100W wired charging support. These enhancements are positioned to attract heavy users prioritizing endurance and quick recharging.
Leaks indicate a flat OLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate and 1.5K resolution. The screen size is expected to be around 6.74 inches, similar to the Nord 4, although it may slightly increase. Design changes include a vertical, pill-shaped camera module and a departure from the Nord 4’s dual-tone finish. Color options may include off-white and pale blue, hinting at a minimalist aesthetic.
Reports suggest a transition to a glass back and plastic frame, potentially to balance cost and weight. The Nord 4 featured a metal frame, and it remains to be seen how the material change affects the feel and durability of the device.
The camera configuration is expected to remain largely unchanged, with a 50MP primary sensor and an 8MP ultrawide lens on the rear, and a 16MP front-facing camera. While hardware might not see a significant change, software-based improvements could enhance photo output.
Pricing has not been officially disclosed, but industry insiders suggest the base model will launch under Rs 30,000. The Nord 4 launched at Rs 29,999, and OnePlus may retain a similar price point while offering upgrades in performance and battery life.
