OnePlus 15 Skips 14: What 165Hz Display Means for Flagship Phones

OnePlus appears ready to enter a new phase of display technology with its upcoming OnePlus 15, featuring a 165Hz screen, according to a recent post by OnePlus China president Li Jie Louis. In the post, Louis described the next generation of devices as ushering in an “Ultra-High Refresh Era,” signaling that OnePlus may push screen refresh rates beyond the current flagship norm.
The OnePlus 15 is anticipated to come with a 6.8-inch 2K LTPO AMOLED display, offering a 165Hz refresh rate and slimmer bezels. While gaming phones like the Asus ROG Phone 8 and 9 have already reached 165Hz and 185Hz, OnePlus could bring this ultra-smooth visual experience to mainstream smartphones, similar to the impact the OnePlus 7 Pro had on popularizing high-refresh displays.
The launch follows the announcement by CEO Pete Lau that OnePlus’ collaboration with Hasselblad, which began with the OnePlus 9 series in 2021, will conclude with the OnePlus 13 lineup. Going forward, OnePlus will rely on its in-house DetailMax Engine, a computational imaging system aimed at delivering precise, realistic photos without over-processing.
Lau emphasized that while Hasselblad’s design philosophy influenced OnePlus’ camera identity, the company will now focus on its proprietary technology. The DetailMax Engine, fully developed internally, promises sharp, true-to-life images and will likely feature in the OnePlus 15.
What the OnePlus 15 Might Offer
The company appears to be skipping the OnePlus 14, reportedly due to cultural superstitions surrounding the number 14 in Mandarin-speaking regions. Early leaks suggest the OnePlus 15 will offer high-end specifications:
