OnePlus has today made the official announcement of its flagship smartphone, the OnePlus 15, in the Chinese market. The event at 7 PM local time (4:30 PM IST) was followed by weeks of leaks and speculations and the company’s premium smartphone category movement indeed, next big.
The OnePlus 15 event was live-streamed over the company's official online platforms, thus offering a live demonstration of the new device to the people all over the world. Other markets, including India, are expected to get the smartphone later this year.
The OnePlus 15 that has just been unveiled is mostly similiar in design with the previous 13s series and adopts the flat-edge design. It sports an AMOLED display of 165Hz, keeping the bezels narrow thereby giving a larger viewing area. With this setup, it becomes evident that the company targets both casual users and power enthusiasts as its main markets focusing on the performance and precision.
The device is equipped with Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 processor and the maximum of 16GB of RAM along with a 1TB internal storage configuration is the powerhouse of the phone. The Chinese variant comes with ColorOS 16 on Android 16 while the Indian version coming soon will have the OxygenOS 16 that was rolled out earlier this month.
OnePlus 15, however, has shifted its strategy by letting go of the previous flagships' brand association with Hasselblad. The company has launched a new imaging system that will take care of the clarity and detail processing. The rear camera comprises of a 50MP triple-camera setup expected to be capable of delivering good dynamic range and low-light performance.
Inside the One plus the device is a battery of 7000mAh silicon-carbon, which is very robust and offers a long lifespan. The device supports both wired and wireless charging at 100W and 50W respectively, thus making it one of the fastest charging smartphones in the segment.
The initial launch of the product is only for China, but an online teaser regarding the India launch has recently come up, indicating that the device will be available in India shortly. Moreover, the industry insiders are also speculating that the company might offer the OnePlus Ace 6, probably to be known as the OnePlus 15R, along with the main lineup for the international markets.
The pricing and configurations for India are likely to be communicated in the next few weeks, with analysts anticipating aggressive prices to counter other flagship launches.
