OnePlus is preparing to introduce its next flagship, the OnePlus 15, later this year, bypassing the “14” naming convention. Industry reports indicate the company is preparing a new design and a proprietary imaging system, signaling a departure from its long-standing collaborations.
The upcoming smartphone is expected to feature a redesigned rear panel with a square camera housing, moving away from the rounded layout seen on the OnePlus 12 and 13. The frame design reportedly draws inspiration from earlier OnePlus 9 and 10 models, offering a flatter appearance. Internal hardware changes could include a silicon-carbon battery pack, allowing the company to deliver a battery capacity of around 7,000mAh.
For its camera system, OnePlus is reportedly developing an in-house image-processing engine, marking a significant strategic shift. The brand’s earlier flagship models featured Hasselblad-tuned software, a partnership that may now remain exclusive to Oppo products. Analysts expect this shift to give OnePlus tighter control over tuning and optimization, potentially resulting in improved color calibration and low-light imaging performance.
The OnePlus 15 is anticipated to run on Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 chipset, which is expected to debut later this month. If the in-house imaging platform achieves its goals, the phone could rival competitors leveraging similar brand-specific camera enhancements, such as Xiaomi with Leica and Vivo with Zeiss partnerships.
The changes indicate that OnePlus is seeking greater independence in its product development. The company has long benefited from shared resources through its parent firm Oppo, but these efforts suggest a pivot toward a more distinct brand identity.
The OnePlus 15 is expected to be unveiled globally before the end of 2025, though the company has yet to announce an official launch timeline.
