With Samsung's July Unpacked event just days away, new details are surfacing about what's coming in its next-generation smartwatches. The latest One UI 8 Watch beta introduces several wellness-focused features, hinting at updates expected in the Galaxy Watch 8 lineup.
Several users participating in Samsung's beta program—available to Galaxy Watch5 series and newer—report seeing early versions of these features. However, reports suggest full access will be limited to Galaxy Watch 8 and newer models.
Samsung’s new AI-based Running Coach assists users with tailored fitness guidance. Once activated during a 12-minute outdoor run, the feature evaluates running data such as pace and duration to deliver a score and create a structured training plan. Options range from beginner 5K goals to marathon-level preparation.
This AI coach adjusts session intensity and offers motivation and feedback similar to Apple Watch’s new Workout Buddy but is uniquely geared to Galaxy ecosystem users.
The Bedtime Guidance tool suggests optimal sleep times based on recent sleep trends and personal activity history. It uses circadian rhythm and sleep pressure data to create customized nightly recommendations, designed especially for those with inconsistent sleep patterns.
The Vascular Load function tracks nighttime heart rate to evaluate cardiovascular recovery. A persistently high heart rate during sleep may signal increased stress or potential heart-related concerns. The feature uses data from daily stress and exercise to offer actionable insights.
Samsung is introducing a new health tracker called the Antioxidant Index. This tool measures carotenoid levels—compounds found in fruits and vegetables—using the Galaxy Watch’s BioActive sensor. Users simply place a finger on the sensor to receive results within five seconds.
Samsung links antioxidant levels to better aging and overall wellness. The company recommends using the thumb for optimal sensor contact.
These features are currently accessible to beta testers in select regions. The complete rollout is expected following the Unpacked event, where the Galaxy Watch 8 is anticipated to debut with One UI 8 Watch.
