Samsung officially rolled out One UI 8 based on Android 16 at its Galaxy Unpacked event, aligning the platform with its Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Z Flip 7 foldable devices. The update introduces an array of security measures, AI features tailored for foldables, and improved cross-device protection under its Knox ecosystem. Alongside, the company debuted One UI 8 Watch, developed on Wear OS 6, which launches with the Galaxy Watch 8 series.

One UI 8’s primary focus is on user data protection. Samsung introduced Knox Enhanced Encrypted Protection (KEEP), which enables app-specific, encrypted storage environments. Each application receives isolated access, limiting data visibility and interaction between apps.

Samsung also upgraded Knox Matrix, its interconnected security system. In case a connected device is identified as compromised, the system auto-signs out the Samsung Account from that device, suspending cloud sync to mitigate risks.

Secure Wi-Fi within One UI 8 also received updates with a revamped cryptographic foundation, enhancing defense against evolving network threats.

The latest version of Galaxy AI includes enhancements aimed specifically at foldable displays. On the Galaxy Z Fold 7, users can compare AI-edited images side-by-side with the original and utilize new erase suggestions for object removal. Features like Photo Assist and Generative Edit now operate seamlessly on the foldable’s expansive screen.

AI-generated results can be viewed in either Split View or Floating View, aiding multitasking. Users can drag and drop generated images or text across apps within a multi-window interface.

For the Galaxy Z Flip 7, AI functionalities have been integrated into the FlexWindow cover screen. Google’s Gemini Live conversational AI is now supported. The Now Bar and Now Brief offer contextual AI prompts and content summaries directly from the external display. New camera tools include real-time filters, zoom slider, and dual preview for more flexible photography.

Launched on the Galaxy Watch 8 and Watch 8 Classic, One UI 8 Watch expands Samsung’s wellness portfolio. It introduces a five-second Antioxidant Index test using the BioActive Sensor, aimed at providing insights into users’ carotenoid levels.

Sleep-related features include Bedtime Guidance, which analyses circadian patterns over three days, and Vascular Load, which tracks cardiovascular stress during rest. The new Running Coach evaluates a user’s condition post a 12-minute run and generates custom training recommendations.

Additionally, Energy Score combines sleep, heart rate variability, and activity metrics to deliver a personalized daily energy estimate. One UI 8 Watch also enables high stress alerts and guided breathing sessions.

Pre-orders for the Galaxy Z Fold 7, Z Flip 7, and Watch 8 series have commenced in India. All devices come with One UI 8 and mark Samsung’s next step in integrating foldable hardware with AI and security-first software.
