Nothing has confirmed that its Android 16-based operating system, Nothing OS 4.0, will be launching shortly. The announcement appeared on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter), where the company shared a brief teaser video and a message indicating the update is “coming soon.” Details about the full list of features remain limited, but the video gives an early glimpse of expected changes.
The teaser highlights redesigns for both Nothing and CMF smartphones. Users can expect new icon shapes and a simplified interface. Among the updates is a circular flashlight icon featuring a red beam. Additional system elements, including the Bluetooth toggle, dark mode switch, temperature monitor widget, and brightness slider, are shown with rounded iconography. The video also hints at new widgets, such as a to-do list widget with a square icon, and a pill-shaped toggle design. Other graphics, including an umbrella icon and a circular wheel-like element, suggest potential feature additions.
Nothing OS 4.0 was first announced during the launch of the Phone 3, with the company stating that the Android 16 rollout would start in September for qualifying devices. Last month, a “Closed Beta” version of the OS became available for Phone 3 users, indicating that an open beta could follow prior to the public release.
Regarding device eligibility, Nothing CEO Carl Pei confirmed on X that the company’s original device, the Phone 1, has reached the end of its software support cycle and will not receive the update. Devices set to receive Nothing OS 4.0 include:
* Nothing Phone 2
* Nothing Phone 3
* Nothing Phone 2a
* Nothing Phone 2a Plus
* Nothing Phone 3a
* Nothing Phone 3a Pro
* CMF Phone 1
* CMF Phone 2 Pro
The rollout aligns with the previously shared schedule, signaling that Nothing is moving forward with the Android 16-based upgrade across its compatible device lineup.
