Nothing Technology Limited (stylized as NOTHING) has officially announced the release date of its highly awaited software update, Nothing OS 4.0, which is built on Android 16 - November 21, 2025. The release comes after a long period of testing, where users aided in improving the system’s features and performance.
The firm expressed the beta testers’ power on its official community forum by stating that feedback was the main contributor in getting the update ready for a large audience. Furthermore, Nothing communicated a short announcement on X: “Nothing OS 4.0. Allow your phone to bring flow into your life. Public Release. 21 Nov.”
Eligible Devices and Rollout Plan
Whereas, Nothing has not unveiled a definite list of devices that are going to be supported, the models that participated in the beta clearly denote which phones are to be the first to be updated. The covered devices in the first phase are Nothing Phone 2, Phone 3, Phone 2a, Phone 2a Plus, Phone 3a, and Phone 3a Pro. Besides, the enterprise has plans for the upcoming Phone 3a Lite and devices in the Nothing’s CMF sub-brand to take place in later stages.
The company is planning a staggered over-the-air (OTA) release that begins on November 21, to provide a stable experience for all eligible devices. The phased rollout is basically to observe system performance and reduce problems during the early stages of deployment.
New Features and System Improvements
Nothing OS 4.0 comes with a lot of system-wide improvements and device-specific enhancements. The following are some of the main ones:
Extra Dark Mode: Nighttime use is eye strain-free due to the mode’s light reduction.
Pop-Up View: Floating windows for app-to-app multitasking.
2×2 Quick Settings Tile: More convenient access to controls that are most frequently used.
Updated Lock Screens: User-friendly personalization with two new clock layouts.
Essential Apps: The feature of Nothing Playground that allows creating custom widgets is no longer restricted to specific users, as the widgets can now be shared with others.
The camera of the devices also got some improvements. The Stretch camera mode, that was initially brought to the Phone 3, is now available for the Phone 2 series too and this will result in capturing the images wider and more clearly. The Lock Glimpse widget shows selected content and notifications on the lock screen, but it is turned off by default on the Phone 3a series in order to protect user privacy.
Nothing OS 4.0 is a major milestone in the company’s software development with the largest release being in 2025. The update is mainly about the AI-driven tools, customization of the interface, and the system's overall improvement. Users will get the best and the smoothest experience throughout the entire Nothing ecosystem which is a big leap in company's strategy of introducing AI in the smartphone—a significant step in Nothing’s ongoing strategy to integrate AI into its smartphones.
