Vivo's new series V70, which is the successor of the V60 series, and the company is planning to introduce four smartphones instead of the usual Pro and Pro+ ones. Leaks have been pointing toward a complete redesign of the brand for the new series which has not been seen in the previous generations.
The rumored lineup contains the Vivo V70, V70 Elite 5G, V70 FE 5G, and V70 Lite 5G. All four variants may be available worldwide, but the Indian market will get only the regular V70 and V70 FE. This pattern resembles the last V60 series, in which India got only the V60 and V60e.
The release of FE and Elite models is the main thing. The FE label was used for Vivo's premium X-series, including the X200 FE, hinting at a possible "value-for-money" device that provides certain high-end features at a lower price. The Elite variant, on the other hand, could imply a more powerful chipset, possibly the Snapdragon Elite processor, although it may have to settle for a previous-gen SoC as the series is aimed at the sub-flagship market.
The signs of V70's coming have already appeared in the certification sites. An instrument with the code name V2538 has been discovered on the BIS site which probably represents the Indian version. A listing on Geekbench shows an octa-core processor with a 2.80GHz primary core, 2.40GHz performance cores, and 1.84GHz efficiency cores. The GPU is an Adreno 722, which matches closely with Qualcomm's Snapdragon 7 Gen 4. This suggests an increase in performance as compared to the V60 series.
The V70 may also be a worldwide variant of the Vivo S50, which is going to be launched in China on December 15. Vivo has been known to rebrand its exclusive S-series for global markets under the V-series, and to change the functions according to the liking of the different regions. The buyers will likely be drawn to the quality of the display and the superb performance of the camera, which are the main features of the V-series.
The pricing is still a mystery and it has not been revealed yet. In the past, the maximum priced model in the V-series had around Rs 50,000 tag. By launching an FE model, Vivo is indirectly saying that they are targeting the mid-range customers who want a “lite” flagship experience but are not ready to pay the premium. In case only the V70 and V70 FE models come to India, then, Vivo will be at par with the devices that are coming in the market with Snapdragon 7 Gen 4 and MediaTek Dimensity 8000, such as OPPO’s Reno series.
