Mojang released the second pre-release for Minecraft: Java Edition 1.21.9 on Friday, addressing multiple bugs and updating data pack compatibility. The update focuses on Copper Golem behavior and various technical adjustments.
The new pre-release resolves issues introduced in previous snapshots. Copper Golems will now oxidize even if the game rule `doDaylightCycle` is turned off. Their transformation into statues has been adjusted to align with Bedrock Edition mechanics, removing the need for proximity to the center of an empty block. Fully oxidized Copper Golems can now turn into statues immediately, improving gameplay consistency.
Technical changes include updating the Data Pack version to 88.0. This aligns with the previous modification to `/setworldspawn` and `/spawnpoint` commands introduced in 1.21.9 Pre-Release 1.
Several bug fixes are included in this release:
* Copper Golems now oxidize correctly when `doDaylightCycle` is disabled.
* Occasional crashes from resource pack reloads have been resolved.
* Server Management Protocol now supports parameters passed as objects.
* The under-nameplate display issue for players and mannequins named “deadmau5” has been fixed.
* Lag spikes caused by Copper Golems checking chests are addressed.
* Oxidized Copper Golems now turn into statues faster.
* Posed mannequins now use correct hitboxes.
* Text display billboarding has been corrected.
* World spawn points specific to a dimension no longer prevent mob spawning in other dimensions.
* Copper Golems can search chests without getting permanently stuck.
* Minor data pack version adjustments affecting `/setworldspawn` and `/spawnpoint` are implemented.
Pre-release versions are accessible through the Minecraft Launcher. Players must enable snapshots in the “Installations” tab to access the update. Users are advised to back up worlds or use a separate folder, as testing versions may corrupt existing game worlds.
